Unity Asset - MassiveNet
NOTE: Although it still costs $50 on the Asset Store, the developer has released the asset for free.
MassiveNet is a networking library built around the concepts of massively multiplayer, multi-server architecture while maintaining an API familiar to those who have experience with popular Unity networking solutions.
The inherent complexity of networking combined with the oft-limited time and budget of independent game developers makes it difficult to progress towards stability and seamless server transitions in high concurrency environments.
Why MassiveNet? There are a multitude of networking options for Unity users, but each has its own drawbacks. Whether it be closed source, incapable of authoritative functionality, prohibitively licensed, expensive, or non-performant, there is always some major compromise that makes it difficult or impossible to meet requirements.
Please read the documentation to get a better idea of the capabilities of the library. You can find them here!
Key Features:
Full source code included.
Fully authoritative servers.
Low overhead.
Interface comparable to popular Unity networking libraries.
Supports large number of concurrent connections.
Support for seamless hand-off.
Clients can connect to multiple servers at once.
Support for return values on RPCs using a NetRequest.
Support for IEnumerator RPCs.
Respond to a NetRequest via parameter instead of return value if needed.
Create an RPC by simply adding the [NetRPC] attribute to a method.
Support for serializing/deserializing custom types.
Automatic network LOD/scope for network objects, a crucial feature for massive games.
Incremental server-side tasks spread load more evenly across each frame.
